UK Airport Parking
The growth of the UK’s regional airports has been phenomenal.
With over 100 plus short haul destinations now on offer, and low cost carriers keen to attract travellers, Europe and north Africa are excellent value for money.
However, even for just a weekend getaway, the cost for using long stay airport parking at many UK’s regional airports will cost you more than your flight.
So what are the most important options when choosing where to leave your vehicle:
- Value for money/competitive/cheapest pricing option.
- Quick transit to/from airport terminal.
- Covered parking area and covered walkways to terminal.
- Speed and convenience when making reservation.
- Secured and patrolled area.
- Friendly staff !
- A choice between on site vs off airport.
- Drive in reservation on the day without financial penalties ?
Booking in advance, in all cases is a must. The cost difference in all the airports we surveyed is significant, with many regional prices exceeding those charged at Heathrow and Gatwick.
Most airport advance booking systems offer either flexible or non-flexible tariffs. Non flexible, are exactly that, and once you have booked and paid no amendments can be made. Charging structures for flexible reservations are higher but you can make amendments should your travel plans change.
Short notice cancellations • less than 48 hours before check-in will incur a fee, and all operators levy a credit card fee.
Another equally important “small print” to look out for is minimum parking stays.
When you consider most “weekend” breaks are, on average 3 days, most regional UK airport parking operators have a 5 day minimum for pre-booking in addition to cancellation fees if your travel plans change in with less than 48 hours notice.
