japan duty free allowanceThe Japanese Customs Bureau, like many, operate a dual channel system for arriving passengers. Red, to declare goods you need to pay duty and taxes on, and the Green channel for those who have nothing to declare.All arriving airline passengers have a duty free allowance on effects they are importing into Japan.
The amount of duty free allowance you receive will be dependant on whether you are a resident or a visitor. However, with both alcohol and tobacco products these allowances are only available to those who are 20 years of age and older.

Japanese Residents Duty Free Allowance

  • 200 Cigarettes or 50 Cigars or 250 gms of rolling/pipe tobacco.
  • An additional 250 gms of Japanese made tobacco products may also be brought in provided they were purchased Duty Free and outside Japan
  • 2 ounces of perfume.
  • 3 x 75 cl bottles of alcohol
  • Gifts and presents up to a value of 200,000 Japanese Yen.
  • 400 Cigarettes or 100 Cigars or 500 gms of rolling/pipe tobacco.
  • An additional 500 gms of Japanese made tobacco products may also be brought in provided they were purchased Duty Free and outside Japan.
  • 2 ounces of perfume.
  • 3 x 75 cl bottles of alcohol
  • Gifts and presents up to a value of 200,000 Japanese Yen.
