Qatar Duty Free Shopping

Doha International Free Duty Shopping

Home to one of the world’s fastest growing premium airlines, Qatar Airways, only one of six airlines to be classed as 5 star (1), Qatar Duty Free (QDF) has had a tough owner to keep up with.

From a small shop a decade ago, to sales of US$200 million in 2009 its more than just kept up. 2010 saw Qatar Duty Free awarded the DFNI award for travel retail excellence which gives you some idea of the investment, growth and the increased choice on offer at Doha. With the majority of passengers transitting through Doha, Qatar Duty Free coupled with Aer Rianta have made supreme efforts to stock the widest choice of brands, and with the widest choice of prices.

All the major global brands appear, with perfumes and cosmetics from Clarins, Estee Lauder, Chanel, Clinique, Bvlgari, Dior, La Prarie, Tom Ford, YSL and Gucci just to name a few in addition to men’s collections from Boss, Caroline Herrara, Narcisco Rodriquez, Givenchy and of course Georgio Armani. Also worth checking is the new stylish range from MCM in the main and first/business terminals.

Keeping track of time seems to be an obsession and you can browse from high end Rolex to the funky Lambretta range of watches plus full selections from Police, Puma, Zeades and Aigner.

Souvenirs and toys tend to take second place to the wide offerings on anything electrical • cameras, computers, and mobile phones, but the Gulf’s love of gold holds strong with 18, 22 and 24 kt offerings at the gold shops.

If you need currency exchange, Qatar National Bank operates services in both terminals and together with other banks has ATMs throughout the airport.

Many fast food and the usual coffee offerings are available, but for something more substantial you are better using (because you can) or paying (because you need too) one of the lounges. Qatar premium terminal (Qatar business and first class passengers), Gold lounge, Silver lounge or the Oryx lounge.

There are currently three mosques. The mosque for men only is located in arrivals and a mosque for both men and women is located in departures.

For those that like a small gamble Qatar Duty Free operate a car draw (think Aston Martin, Ferrari, and Lamborghini) as well as the US$1 million cash draw. Tickets are available to all passengers using Doha Airport.

New Doha Airport – Hamad International Airport Duty Free

Qatar Duty Free From a shoppers view, the main problem has always been the lack of space. The tax and duty free retail area at Doha just couldn’t be changed to service the increase in passenger numbers. However, all that is about to change in a big way ..

Being constructed just 5 kilometres from the existing airport is the new international airport for Doha to be officially called Hamad International Airport.

The new 3 tier terminal will have some 25000m2 of retail space dedicated to showcasing the finest airport shopping in the Gulf. With a new target opening date of April 2014, it will support the continuing expansion of Qatar Airways as a world class carrier, and Qatar as a world class aviation hub.
