Duty Free Allowances & Concessions: New Zealand
As a traveller or visitor to New Zealand you are entitled to import the following quantities of free of Customs charges, duties and taxes.
These allowances and concessions apply if you are of 17 years of age or older, are carried by you personally on arrival and are for your own personal use, or as a gift.
New Zealand duty free allowances will not apply if they are not carried by you or are intended for resale.
- 200 cigarettes
- or 250 grams of tobacco
- or 50 cigars
- or a mixture of all three weighing not more than 250 grams.
- 4.5 litres of wine
- or 4.5 litres of beer
- 3 bottles each containing not more than 1.125 lires of spirits or liqueur.
Full Customs charges are payable on quantities imported in excess of these allowances.
Excluding alcohol and tobacco allowances, New Zealand personal concessions also allows you to bring in free of duty goods purchased overseas and/or purchased duty-free in New Zealand with a total combined value of NZ$700. Goods in excess of this value ($700) attract duty and passengers travelling together cannot combine their individual $700 concessions.
You do not have to declare your clothing, footwear, jewellery, or toiletries. These are regarded as personal effects if they are intended solely for your own use.
