Duty Free Allowances for Malaysia
For tourists and travellers to Malaysia, here is our quick guide to the duty & tax free exemptions and allowances.Travellers, tourists and visitors may bring in goods and used personal items into Malaysia duty free for personal use only. These items must be carried on your person, or packed in personal accompanied baggage.For visitors and tourists and non residents these allowances apply only if you’re staying in Malaysia for over 72 hours.
If you are a returning Malaysian resident you must have been away for not less than 72 hours. (exceptions are currently Labuan, 24 hours and for Langkawi or Pulau Tioman, 48 hours)
Unless otherwise stated these allowances are per person/individual.
Wine, spirits or liquors not exceeding 1 litre.
Tobacco and Cigarette products
200 cigarettes or 225grams of tobacco. Matches not exceeding 100 sticks
Perfumes and Cosmetics
Not exceeding RM 200 (roughly £40.00, or US$64.00 or €48.00)
Gifts, Souvenirs and Presents
A value on these is placed at RM700, or RM500 if brought in from Langkawi or Labuan.
Customs allowances do change frequetly, so please do check before you travel!
One rule, however, is unlikely to change and this concerns the possession of drugs ………..
