KIT KAT celebrates 75 years with special packs for travellers

KIT KAT • everyone’s favourite chocolate snack • is 75 years old this year and, to celebrate, special gift packs are being introduced for a limited period. They’re exclusively available to travellers, however, so look out for the special 75th anniversary logo on packs in airports, on airlines and ferries.

Choose from a 48 two-finger Gift Box or a 12 x two -finger Mini Dispenser, both recreating the original KIT KAT logo, along with Milk and Dark Travel Packs, Chunky Trio-Packs (now with a new Caramel flavour) and Minis Sharing Bar. Packs use story boards and time lines to tell the story of KIT KAT from its conception in 1935 to present day, making each a fabulous gift for friends and family • or why not just treat yourself!

But remember, the Anniversary packs are only available during 2010 and exclusively in Travel Retail • so don’t miss out.
More about KIT KAT. Did you know that when it was first introduced back in 1935, KIT KAT was called Chocolate Crisp • an accurate description but not very exciting! Shortly afterwards the name was changed to KIT KAT after the KITKAT Club • an 18th Century Whig Literary club, so called because it could only display wide paintings known as ‘kitkats’, whose tops were snapped off to fit the clubs low ceilings.

With its vibrant red pack, delicious taste, crispy texture and unique personality, KIT KAT has become a worldwide best seller with over 13 billion fingers sold worldwide every year. Since the original two and four finger milk chocolate bars, there have been various additions including the highly popular Chunky plus flavours including dark, white, orange, peanut butter and new Caramel.

Today you can buy Minis, as well as KIT KAT Pop Choc • bite sized pieces • and in certain parts of the world you’ll find other alternatives, such as a three-finger pack in the Middle East and a giant finger in Japan.
Whichever format is your favourite, make sure KIT KAT is on your shopping list next time you travel • especially during 2010.

Question. For a short period in its history the KIT KAT pack was blue not red • why?
Answer. In 1945, after WW2 when milk was in short supply, KIT KAT went ‘dark’ for a while, and the blue pack was used to reflect this. In 1947, when milk supplies were back to normal, the Red pack returned.
